节肢动物媒介携带并复制病毒,这些病毒在人类、动物或植物宿主中循环并繁殖,但只在宿主中引起疾病和死亡。大多数节肢动物媒介是昆虫。了解昆虫如何承受和传播病毒对于设计打断病毒传播链的方法具有重大意义。阐明媒介与病毒之间复杂的相互作用对于理解宿主与病毒之间独特的相互作用至关重要。这些知识是未来开发环境可持续的病毒疾病预防和控制措施的前提。
